Empowering Bangladesh Against Lung Cancer
Lung cancer stands as one of the most critical public health threats in Bangladesh. It ranks high in both cancer incidence and mortality rates among men. Unfortunately, a vast majority of cases in our country are diagnosed at very late stages (Stage III or IV), where clinical treatments are less effective and survival rates are low. This delay is largely driven by a lack of public awareness, symptoms being mistaken for common seasonal ailments or tuberculosis, self-treatment at pharmacies, and delayed clinical routing.
LungCare BD is an academic research initiative and public-health awareness portal established to bridge this critical information gap. Developed as a formal research project at United International University (UIU) and supported by funding from the Institute for Advanced Research (IAR), our platform applies cutting-edge artificial intelligence to community health challenges. We use modern, user-friendly digital tools to help people recognize warning signs early, analyze exposure risks, and connect with clinical resources quickly.
Our Core Objectives
- Public Awareness: Explain lung cancer symptoms, risk factors (including smoking, secondhand smoke, urban air pollution, and occupational dust/chemical exposures), and prevention strategies in simple, accessible language.
- AI-Driven Symptom Check & Risk Guidance: Provide an interactive symptom checklist and a multi-agent LLM screening conversation tool that highlights high-risk patterns and prompts users to seek medical consultation early.
- Clinical Routing Support: Connect patients and their families directly to official medical support channels in Bangladesh, such as the National Institute of Cancer Research & Hospital (NICRH) and the government’s Health Batayan helpline (16263).
- Research Data Collection: Collect anonymous, de-identified data through structured surveys to help researchers understand diagnostic delay barriers, prior misdiagnosis patterns, and public health gaps in cancer care.

As a formal university-led pilot study grounded in deep learning oncology research, LungCare BD operates with strict adherence to public health and ethical research guidance. ফুসফুসের ক্যান্সার বাংলাদেশের অন্যতম গুরুতর জনস্বাস্থ্য হুমকি। পুরুষদের মধ্যে ক্যান্সার আক্রান্তের হার এবং মৃত্যুর দিক থেকে এটি শীর্ষস্থানে রয়েছে। দুর্ভাগ্যবশত, আমাদের দেশের বেশিরভাগ ক্ষেত্রে এই রোগটি অনেক দেরিতে (স্টেজ III বা IV) শনাক্ত হয়, যখন ক্লিনিক্যাল চিকিৎসা কম কার্যকর হয় এবং বেঁচে থাকার হার উল্লেখযোগ্যভাবে কমে যায়। এই বিলম্বের প্রধান কারণগুলোর মধ্যে রয়েছে জনসচেতনতার অভাব, সাধারণ ঋতুভিত্তিক অসুস্থতা বা যক্ষ্মা ভেবে ভুল করা, ফার্মেসি থেকে নিজেরা ওষুধ কিনে খাওয়া এবং সঠিক সময়ে চিকিৎসকের কাছে না যাওয়া।

আমাদের মূল লক্ষ্যসমূহ
- জনসচেতনতা বৃদ্ধি: সহজ ও বোধগম্য ভাষায় ফুসফুস ক্যান্সারের লক্ষণ, ঝুঁকির কারণ (যার মধ্যে ধূমপান, পরোক্ষ ধূমপান, শহরের বায়ুদূষণ এবং পেশাগত ধুলোবালি/রাসায়নিকের সংস্পর্শ অন্তর্ভুক্ত) এবং প্রতিরোধের উপায় সম্পর্কে মানুষকে জানানো।
- এআই-ভিত্তিক উপসর্গ যাচাই ও ঝুঁকি নির্দেশনা: একটি ইন্টারেক্টিভ লক্ষণ চেকলিস্ট এবং মাল্টি-এজেন্ট এলএলএম (LLM) স্ক্রিনিং চ্যাটবট প্রদান করা, যা উচ্চ-ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ বিষয়গুলো চিহ্নিত করে এবং ব্যবহারকারীদের দ্রুত চিকিৎসকের পরামর্শ নিতে উৎসাহিত করে।
